Mr & Mrs Whitmore

wedding hair great barr

Saturday took me to Forest of Arden Marriott hotel to see my old school friend Kelly and her six bridesmaids and mom. Holly Seaman, hair stylist came with me to create the hair styles the bridesmaid wanted whilst I spent the time on everyones makeup and with Kelly creating her vision for her hair and makeup.

I knew at her trial that Kelly was going to be a stunning bride. At her trial she decided she wanted her hair n a high updo, off her face with her tiara. But having seen Michelle Keegans wedding day she had a last minute change of heart for her hair. So after a last minute trial on Tuesday we tried a couple of low down styles and she decided that she wanted her long brown hair in an elegant, sophisticated chignon style at the nape of her neck. Perfect style to complement the beautiful crystal tiara and floor length veil she had chosen. Continue reading Mr & Mrs Whitmore

Princess party fun

Wow, that was a new experience. Ten 6 year of girls transformed to glittery princesses. Such a cute idea for a party theme.

After they arrived at Hollys house they took it in turns to be pampered. Hollys mom Ruth entertained the girls with frozen themed party games whilst I painted their nails and glitter tattooes.

They all chose which colour glitter eyeshadow and stick on earrings they wanted and most importantly whether to have their hair crimped or curled. Finally glitter hairspray and a spritz of princess perfume equals ten very excited beauties. Different to a wedding morning but equally busy and rewarding making people happy. Just when I think my job can’t get any better!

Looking forward to more princess parties in the future.

Jessica & Matts wedding

Nice drive out yesterday to Curradine Barns in Shrawley, one of my favourite wedding venues. Beautiful wedding and stunning setting. Jessica had one bridesmaid George and a flower girl Poppy. Poppy had the most immense amount of long, thick hair Ive seen on an 8 year old so it took an eternity turning it into beautiful waves and a waterfall braid. George had equal amounts of hair and opted for a simple curled half up half down style with small braids to add some detail.

Jessica described herself as quite plain both with her makeup and hair. She had shoulder length fine hair so we added some extensions to add some length and volume and she had a classic bridal updo. Big curls and pinned low down with a diamante detailed clip pinned into the top. Simple and elegant. Makeup artist Siobhan Ansell did a fab job with Jessicas simple natural makeup. It was so nice to see her smile from ear to ear once she was ready to get her dress on. Another fab day.

2 Brides, 2 bridesmaids, a castle and an Abbey…..

Busy day today starting at Studley Castle to Tammy and Russells fairly unconventional wedding. I was greeted by Tammy at the door whilst Russell was just getting out of bed. Only the second couple Ive known be together on the morning of the wedding. Tammys friend Jo was there who was going to be walking her down the aisle. Tammy wanted a relaxed bo-ho style hair do which was loose curls with extensions and a waterfall braid. Simple flowers were weaved into the plait to create her look. Jo wanted her fascinator built into the style so chose a half up, half down curly style which incorporated the style. Both girls were open to makeup styles, they just wanted to be flawless. So Tammy had a gentle smokey eye with some individual false lashes and a nude Tropic gloss and Tropic lip liner. Jo had grey eyeshadows and red lips which worked well with her dark hair and red dress she was planning to wear. Tammys white Vans and green laces will help her enjoy the salsa lesson they have planned later for their guests.

This afternoon was onto Coombe Abbey to meet Karen and Adele, Karens niece. Karen was very worried about how she was going to look today because she lives in London and we have only spoken on Skype so no trial. She is 50 and concerned that she is to old to look nice and never wears dresses. She had a simple bob style hair and a diamante side band. Simple and elegant. Her makeup needed to be natural but flawless so we used the airbrush to give her super smooth skin with some bronze to warm her up and blush to give her a beautiful bridal glow. Her eyes were very gently made smokey using creams and greys. Her fab eyelashes didn’t need much work and she was convinced she would be crying a lot so a waterproof mascara was best. I used Tropics Soft Focus finishing powder which is a must have for brides. It can be used throughout the day to remove any shininess without caking up the face with powder.

Adele had a purple smokey eye and pink lips. She was concerned about covering some spots she had recently come out in but the airbrush is perfect for covering imperfections on the skin.

I absolutely love my job. It gives me so much satisfaction to be able to help people like Karen feel good about themselves and its been a great day. Jessicas wedding tomorrow.

Laura & James Wedding

This morning Eleanor and I attended Moor Hall Hotel to see Laura, her four bridesmaids Carly, Kelly, Jenny and Michelle, flower girl Erin and mom Elaine. The weather was good and the venue beautifully laid out. All the girls had their hair up in a messy, curly side bun. Eleanor did a fantastic job turning Kellys short bob into a side bun using hair extensions. Laura wanted a classic pinned up curls style at the back with a beautiful diamantes comb and veil. More creativity required to take the veil off its original comb which for some reason was very large and create a new version using the diamante comb.

Laura wanted very natural makeup. The airbrush was perfect for this because it allows me to create a flawless look without heavy coverage. An English rose look with subtle blusher and natural brown and cream eyes, complimented with Tropic lipstick and gloss finished the look perfectly. Her beautiful lace dress and lace detail veil looked fantastic and Laura managed to keep her nerves under control.

The four bridesmaids had the same smokey eye effect using the NAKED palette from Urban Decay. They chose gold and slate tones to complement the light green one strap bridesmaids dresses. A simple blowdry and fascinator and flawless makeup was all that was requested from Elaine.

Erin was perfectly behaved whilst her hair was curled and pinned high on her head with an alice band and diamante clips.

It was real pleasure helping Laura achieve the look she imagined. Congratulations.xxx photos to follow

Tropic Lip Satin

untitled (2)

The Tropic Lip Satin is a gloss that comes in two shades: Nude and Tulip. Its bursting with organic pomegranate , vanilla extracts and grapefruit oils and is 100% organic and natural. Ive chosen this as my first review because I instantly fell in love with it the first time I tried it. The spearmint in it makes your lips tingle when you apply, not in the same way as some of the plump up lip glosses that make your mouth feel like its on fire but in a clean fresh way. It actually feels like you’ve just brushed your teeth. The most annoying thing about wearing lip gloss is the fact that my long hair sticks to it at the slightest gust of wind or bend down to tie my shoes. This lip satin is different. It gives a beautiful glossy shine but isn’t thick and sticky. Both colours are beautiful worn alone or ontop of a lipstick. After eating and drinking, the gloss lasts really well. The essential oils in it make your lips feel soft for hours so it takes a long time to feel like its worn off. It comes in a squeezy tube with shaped nozzle so is perfectly shaped to glide onto your lips. Its £12, so a little more expensive than the cheaper makeup counter in boots but no more than the larger brands like bare mineral and Clinique. But you can really feel what you are getting for your money. I absolutely love this gloss and it has been added to my makeup case for my own personal use and to use on clients. Donna and helens wedding

This bank holiday weekend was a true August weddings season with Donna and Stuarts wedding on Saturday and Helen and Brett tying the knot yesterday on the bank holiday. It was nice to concentrate on hair this weekend, getting chance to create some classic bridal styles. Donna had a beautiful full updo created with soft curls set behind a tiara with a veil in the bottom. Helen had extensions fitted to add length and volume to her half up half down curls finished off with a sparkly vintage sideband and diamante drop veil. See my facebook page Amy Bates bridal for pictures of the two lovely ladies.
